Robeson Elementary Center offers its 23rd annual Veterans Day program Friday, Nov. 9, at 9 a.m.

The students and staff of Robeson Elementary Center would like to extend our many thanks to the men and women who have given of their lives to protect and defend our country. Again this year, Robeson Elementary students will participate in a program to honor veterans.

State Representative Gillen will speak at the program, and participating veteran David Rissell will bring an authentic World War II military vehicle to the celebration.

This program started 25 years ago at the Honey Brook Elementary Center with Mrs. Dieffenbach teaching the students to sing the Armed Forces songs. Since then, Dieffenbach brought the idea to Robeson and it has grown over the years with our passion to teach children the importance of honoring veterans.

This year’s theme is “Respect is Our Choice.” Our program is dedicated to all veterans. With great respect, honor and gratitude, we salute them for giving the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

On Nov. 9, 2018, veterans will be served breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by a program in recognition of their service to our country. After the program, veterans are invited to visit our classrooms and share memories of their time in the military. Students love this interaction; their thought-provoking questions and comments help form a great bond between veterans and students.

All Robeson students will take part in preparing for this much-anticipated assembly. Kindergarten will make a banner, first grade will make cards, and second-grade students will decorate invitations; third and fourth grades will present a musical program, as well as poems and essays to commemorate the untold sacrifices made by veterans.

The Veterans Day tribute starts with the Birdsboro VFW Color Guard procession. Also included in the program is a candle-lighting ceremony in remembrance of fallen veterans, “Taps,” memorial reenactments and musical performances by all our students.

The opening song, “Because of You,” will be sung by the third grade. Fourth grade will sing “In Service of Our Country.”

Veterans interested in attending the program are asked to RSVP to 610.582.9580.

Robeson Elementary Center is located at 801 White Bear Road, Birdsboro.
