All-American Luke Hoffman Named PSAC Freshman of the Year

KUTZTOWN – Kutztown University All-America discus thrower Luke Hoffman was recognized for his stellar outdoor campaign on Friday as the league coaches voted him the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year.

Hoffman is the third PSAC Freshman of the Year in program history and the first since 2013.

As a freshman, Hoffman earned Second Team All-America honors with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in North Carolina. He threw for a mark of 168-11 on his first throw to secure the top-10 finish.

He was named an All-Atlantic Region thrower and finished third at the PSAC Championships. Hoffman broke the school-record in his first collegiate competition this spring and enters his sophomore season as the school-record-holder at 174-0.

During the season, Hoffman won the discus at West Chester’s Quad Meet and Moravian’s Greyhound Invitational.

On Sunday, June 17, Hoffman will compete at the 2018 USA Track & Field Junior Championships in Bloomington, Indiana. He is the only Division II competitor in the field of 12 and ranks sixth overall with his school-record mark of 53.05m. The top-3 finishers make the USA Junior National Team and qualify for the World Championships.
