KUTZTOWN – Junior Sara Keeny of the Kutztown University softball team was voted to the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association All-Atlantic Region Second Team, as announced Monday afternoon. The consensus All-Region outfielder was also named All-Region Second Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association last week.
It is the first D2CCA regional honor for Keeny, who is also a three-time NFCA All-Region honoree. She is the first consensus All-Region player for KU since Danielle Amato earned NFCA and D2CCA First Team recognition in 2016.
The accolade adds to a growing list for Keeny in 2018, as she garnered All-PSAC East honors for the third year in a row.
Keeny started 36 games, out of 37 her junior season, and led KU in batting average (.424), hits (53), runs (29), RBI (18) and stolen bases (24) in 125 plate appearances. Her 24 stolen bases led the PSAC, the .424 average was second, and .468 on-base percentage was eighth. She also led the PSAC with five triples.
In the KU record books, Keeny is tied for third all-time with 89 career stolen bases, which is tied for fourth all-time in PSAC history. Her .424 average at the plate ranks ninth all-time at KU for a season, and her .407 career average is tied for second all-time.
