Kirn, Hoffman Post NCAA-Provisional Marks in Last Chance Meet

Freshman Megan Kirn of the Kutztown University women’s track & field team and freshman Luke Hoffman of the men’s track & field team both posted NCAA-Provisional marks on Friday, May 11 at Georgian Court University’s Last Chance Meet in Lakewood, N.J.

Kirn finished in first place in the javelin at 43.62m (143-01), a season-best mark. This mark moved her up in the Div. II ranks, up from 27th to 22nd, in trying to earn an NCAA bid. She improved on her previous best mark of 140-1 set at the PSAC Outdoor Championships last weekend. She remains ranked second all-time in KU history in the javelin. It was the fourth NCAA mark for Kirn this season.

Hoffman won the discus and threw for a mark of 52.75m (173-01), just 0.3m short of his school-record mark of 53.05m at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Apr. 14. It is also the fourth NCAA mark this season for


Five other Golden Bears recorded marks in field events, and all five placed in the top-three of their respective events.

Taylor Downey finished just behind Kirn in second place in the javelin with a career-best throw of 41.20m (135-02).

Ashley Petre placed second in the hammer (162-02) and McKenzie Fagan was second in the high jump (5-03.75).

Mike Campione finished in second in the hammer (158-08) and Brandon Leacraft ended third in the javelin (168-11).

The 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships take place from May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C. Senior pole vaulter Brandon Raguz has automatically qualified after winning the PSAC championship last weekend. Hoffman sat in 15th on the Div. II performance list entering Friday, while Leacraft was 20th. Both will know their NCAA fates on Tuesday, May 15.
