KUTZTOWN | Kutztown University’s Ryan Appleby and Jeff Reimel remained in the national poll in their respective weight classes, as the Golden Bear wrestling team received votes as a team in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Poll, released on Nov. 24.

Appleby remained fifth in the country at heavyweight. Reimel moved from 197 to the 184-pound ranking, earning the No. 10 mark this week.

The two Golden Bears earned KU 13 points in the point-based ranking system. KU was one of 16 teams receiving votes in the poll.

Appleby is off to a 4-1 start at heavyweight this season. A two-time

national qualifier and returning All-American, Appleby went 3-1 and finished in second place at the East Stroudsburg Open on Nov. 12. Later that week, he took down 11th-ranked D.J. Sims of Pitt-Johnstown on the road by a 5-3 decision – his first match of the season against Division II competition.

Reimel is 2-2 this year at 184. A returning national qualifier, Reimel went 1-2 at the ESU Open that featured Division I competition. Like Appleby, he followed up with a win against Pitt-Johnstown, a 10-0 major decision over Brodie Englert.
