    Two Wrestlers Ranked as Kutztown Wrestling Tabbed 23rd in National Preseason Poll

    KUTZTOWN | The Kutztown University wrestling team returns two national qualifiers from last year, both of whom are nationally-ranked, to lead the Golden Bears to a rank of 23rd in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Preseason Poll.

    Jeff Reimel (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) is ranked seventh at 197 after earning his first career trip to nationals last year. Ryan Appleby (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) is ranked fifth in Division II at heavyweight after becoming an All-American last year.

    McKendree was voted the No. 1 team in the country. Notre Dame is the top team in the region in third, followed by Gannon in fifth and Pitt-Johnstown in sixth.

    Reimel went 12-8 as a sophomore (first year at KU), including 9-5 at 197 pounds. He finished in third place at regionals to qualify for nationals. He pinned four opponents during the year, his quickest coming in 0:51, while pinning three opponents at regionals.

    Appleby won a career-high 20 matches in his redshirt-junior year. He finished fourth at regionals and earned his first career All-America honor with an eighth-place finish at nationals. He went 20-13 at heavyweight, including 11-4 in dual matches, earned three wins by technical fall and held a season-high six-match winning streak during the year. He enters his senior year with a career record of 43-34.

    Kutztown opens its season on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the East Stroudsburg Open.

    About the 2017-18 NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 and Individual Rankings:
    The ranking comittee is made up of eight regional rankers and a national chair. The 2017-18 ranking committee includes Mike Wehler (Mercyhurst), Joey Rivera (East Stroudsburg), Cy Wainwright (Newberry), Kurt Leonard (Findlay), Jimmy Rollins (Lindenwood), Rocky Burkett (Northern State), Chas Thompson (Fort Hays State), Dax Charles (Colorado State Pueblo) and is chaired by Heath Grimm (Upper Iowa).

    Poll Methodology: This is a tournament power index ranking. TPI point totals are broken down by the following individual rankings: 1st=20pts, 2nd=16pts, 3rd=13pts, 4th=12pts, 5th=10pts, 6th=9pts, 7th=7pts, 8th=6pts, 9th=4pts, 10th=3pts, 11th=2pts, 12th=1pt. The TPI point totals will be lower than the final actual Ncaa tournament points because it does not include bonus points. The preseason ranking will not include true freshmen.
