KUTZTOWN | Kutztown University field hockey senior goalie Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) made a season-high 14 saves in a 3-0 shutout victory over No. 1-ranked Shippensburg University Saturday, Oct. 21, and for her efforts, has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Co-Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday.
With the win, Hope’s season record runs to 10-6.
It was the first victory for Kutztown field hockey over a No. 1-ranked opponent since its win over No. 1-ranked Bloomsburg University in 2009.
It was Hope’s fifth shutout of the season, blanking a Raider side which had scored 18 goals in its previous two games. The KU defense has recorded six goalless games on the year.
Hope has started all 16 games in the cage this season and is second in the PSAC in saves (80) and save percentage (.816). She is also third in goals-against-average (1.12).
Hope has guided Kutztown (10-6 overall, 5-4 PSAC) to three straight wins, two of which have been shutouts. The Maroon and Gold defense has allowed 18 goals all season, which
It is the first PSAC Athlete of the Week honor in her career, joining sophomore forward Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin), who received her first Athlete of the Week recognition in September.
The Golden Bears end the conference slate with a pivotal home game against No. 2 East Stroudsburg University Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium before wrapping up the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 28 at home against Limestone on Senior Day at 11 a.m.
