    Women’s Cross Country Finishes Third at PSAC Championships

    CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women’s cross country team finished third Saturday morning at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) meet held at California University (PA).

    It is the best finish for the program at the conference championship meet since its 2008 season, and improves from a sixth-place finish in 2016.

    For the fifth time this year, junior Stephanie Bresadola (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) led the way for the Golden Bears, finishing 8th overall out of 172 runners with a time of 23:22.3.

    Junior Alexis Dongvort (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and redshirt-sophomore Amanda Ferraro (Howell, N.J./Howell) both had top-25 finishes, coming in at 21st and 25th respectively. Dongvort had a time of 23:56.7 and Ferraro was 24:08.4.

    It was also the fifth time in the five meets this season that Bresadola, Dongvort and Ferraro all placed 1st-2nd-3rd in the KU lineup for head coach Ray Hoffman.

    Bresadola earned First-Team All-PSAC honors for the second straight year, and Dongvort and Ferraro received Second-Team recognition. The first 15 finishers were named first-team and the next 15 were second-team.

    Freshman Sarah Shannon (Clifton, N.J./Passaic County Technical)just missed out of being named to the All-PSAC team, placing 31st at a time of 24:25.1.

    Lindsay Smyth (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) and Erin Callaghan(Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) both finished in the top-50 overall, coming in at times of 24:50.3 and 25:08.3.

    Katie Duguid (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) ended in 62nd with a time of 25:34.2.

    Dootleen Joseph (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby)Leah Talley(Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville)Shannon McChesney (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area)Julia Wiemken (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Julie Stratton (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) rounded out the KU lineup.

    Edinboro University won the PSAC championship with three runners placing inside the top-11. Shippensburg University was second, and West Chester University and California (PA) finished in fourth and fifth respectively after Kutztown.

    Julie Friend of California (PA) won the PSAC individual title with a time of 22:07.8, almost one minute more than second-place finisher Stefanie Parsons of Edinboro at 23:04.5.

    Kutztown remained fourth in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Poll, released last week. The next poll is set to be released next Tuesday, Oct. 24.

    KU will now prepare to compete in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals at Lock Haven University on Saturday, Nov. 4.
