    Women’s Soccer Ranked Second in Atlantic Region in Initial NCAA Regional Poll of Season

    KUTZTOWN | The Kutztown University women’s soccer team has been ranked second in the Atlantic Region in the first official NCAA Regional Rankings, released on Wednesday.

    The NCAA regional poll is the official poll that will determine the field for the NCAA Tournament next month. This is the first of three weekly regional polls that will be released prior to the live NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. on www.NCAA.com.

    The Golden Bears are 13-1 this year and rank fourth in Division II in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. West Virginia Wesleyan holds the top spot in the Atlantic Region poll with an unbeaten record of 13-0-1.

    Six teams from the Atlantic Region will be selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament, including automatic qualification for conference champions. The top-two seeds in the region will host First & Second Round action (two three-team sites) in the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 10-12. The Third Round and Quarterfinals will be held on Nov. 17-19 at the top remaining seed in the East Region this year, with the National Semifinal and Championships games returning to Kansas City, Mo. on Nov. 30-Dec. 2.

    West Chester is third in the regional poll at 10-2-1, Gannon is fourth at 9-2-2 and East Stroudsburg is fifth at 9-3-2. Rounding out the top-eight in the Atlantic Region are Slippery Rock (9-4-1), Notre Dame (OH) (9-3-2) and Seton Hill (10-4-1).

    Notably, Kutztown’s next two games are against top-eight teams in the region. KU plays at ESU tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m., and returns home for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. against Seton Hill.
