Visiting Penn St. Berks tallied three first-half scores en route to a 4-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference win over host Morrisville State College women’s soccer Saturday afternoon on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 2-8 overall on the season, 2-2 in conference play. Berks improves to 5-4-1 and remains unbeaten in NEAC action at 4-0-0.
Brianna Sorriento (Wynantskill) recorded five saves in the loss, appearing in net for the opening half before being replaced by Brooke Terrier (Hubbardsville) for the final 45. Terrier registered six saves.
Penn St. Berks held the dominating 35-5 decision over the Mustangs in shots on the afternoon, turning four into scores in the victory.
Melissa Martin posted back-to-back goals for the Nittany Lions, in just over a minute’s time, the first at the 10:03 mark, and a second a mere 1:11 later. Martin’s first tally came on a breakaway as she was able to get behind the defensive line for the score. Her second came on a misplayed ball by the Mustang defense.
Caitlin Golden also posted two, including one less than two minutes before the half on the rebound off the initial shot that hit the nearside post. She capped off all scoring in the 56th minute with a tally that got past Terrier.
