KUTZTOWN – For the second straight week, the 22nd-ranked Kutztown University men’s basketball team has been voted into the Division Two Sports Information Directors of America Atlantic Regional Poll, appearing eighth, as released Monday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (3-2 overall) have not played since a 94-91 double-overtime defeat at Lincoln University last Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Kutztown won its season-opener against the region’s second-seed West Liberty, 107-97, back on Nov. 9. It’s only two setbacks came by a combined five points, with both the Lions and West Virginia Wesleyan (74-72, Nov. 10) escaping with last-second shots.
The Maroon and Gold lead the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in scoring at 87.6 points per game and in field goal percentage at 49.8-percent.
Redshirt-senior Anthony Lee ranks second in the conference at 25.6 ppg, sixth at the free-throw line, shooting 88.2-percent, and eighth with 4.0 assists per game. Redshirt-sophomore Moe Williams is fifth in rebounding at 8.8 rebounds per game. KU has five players inside the top-50 in the PSAC in apg, with Lee, Williams (23rd, 2.8), Kiyon Hardy (31st, 2.4), Ricky Hicks (31st, 2.4) and Facundo Arens (50th, 1.6).
Kutztown has three games this week, all at Keystone Arena. KU hosts Jefferson in a non-conference game Wednesday, Nov. 28, beginning at 7 p.m. It will then take on the region’s top team in Indiana (PA) and Clarion in back-to-back days on Saturday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 2. Both of those tips are set for 3 p.m.
