KUTZTOWN – Broadway and Emmy Award-winning actress Jane Lynch and her posse bring a comically kitsch throwback to the old WWII USO canteen and 1960s Christmas specials of yore, with A Swingin’ Little Christmas at Kutztown University on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at Schaeffer Auditorium.
Lynch is joined by fellow comedic actress Kate Flannery (The Office) and dapper Glee vocal arranger Tim Davis. Together they navigate in and out of tight three-part harmonies backed by the Tony Guerrero Quintet, whose leader penned the original tunes, including the comedic “Sentimental Christmas” and the elegant “Winter’s Never Cold (When You’re Around).” Covers include “We Three Kings” and an especially jaunty “Up on the Housetop.”
Regular admission is $42, and seniors and student admission is $38; tickets can be purchased at www.KutztownPresents.org, or by calling the KU Presents! Box Office Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 610-683-4092. Established as the center of cultural life at Kutztown University, KU Presents! serves the campus and community by bringing world-class live arts that entertain, educate and enrich.
Lynch is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for her portrayal of Sue Sylvester on Glee, and she is currently the two-time Emmy Award-winning host of NBC’s Hollywood Game Night. Lynch embarked on her own live concert tour, See Jane Sing, in 2015 with Flannery, Davis and The Tony Guerrero Quintet. Their holiday album, A Swingin’ Little Christmas! is available on iTunes, Amazon and other outlets.
Flannery is best known for her nine seasons as Meredith on NBC’s The Office. Recent TV appearances include New Girl, American Housewife, Another Period and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Flannery is also Lynch’s sidekick in her anti-cabaret act See Jane Sing, having played the Kennedy Center, Joe’s Pub and 30 cities across the country. Her original cult comedy lounge act, the Lampshades, regularly plays comedy festivals and in and around Hollywood.
Davis has been singing and touring for the past three years in See Jane Sing. Davis’ music producing and singing credits include all six seasons of Glee, ABC’s Boy Band, the feature film Love Is Afoot, Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl 2017 halftime show, A Pentatonix Christmas, Barbra Streisand’s 2017 concert tour, Lynch’s A Swingin’ Little Christmas!, The People’s Choice Awards, Josh Groban’s Stages, Childish Gambino, the feature film Beauty and the Beast, and TV’s The Americans and The Goldbergs.
The Tony Guerrero Quintet has been a staple of the Southern California jazz scene for many years and features Tony Guerrero (trumpet and piano), Matt Johnson (drums), Mark Visher (woodwinds), Dave Siebels (keyboards) and David Miller (stand-up bass).
