KUTZTOWN – Kutztown University freshman Luke Hoffman(York, Pa./West York Area) has qualified to compete in the discus at the 2018 USA Track & Field Junior Championships on June 17at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Hoffman, an All-American as a freshman this season, is the only Division II competitor in the field of 12 and ranks sixth overall with his school-record mark of 53.05m. The top-3 finishers make the USA Junior National Team and qualify for the World Championships.
As a freshman, Hoffman earned Second Team All-America honors with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in North Carolina. He threw for a mark of 168-11 on his first throw to secure the top-10 finish.
He was named an All-Atlantic Region thrower and finished third at the conference championships. He is the school-record-holder in the discus, breaking the record in his first collegiate competition.
