PREVIEW: Kutztown Looks to Hand West Chester its First Loss of the Season

KUTZTOWN | The Kutztown University men’s basketball team is riding a six-game winning streak, coming out victorious in its last game against Seton Hill, 84-64, on Saturday, Dec. 9. KU’s next game is a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division tilt at undefeated West Chester University Saturday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. from Hollinger Field House.

Outside of the Golden Bears (8-1 overall, 4-1 PSAC), no other team in the PSAC Eastern Division has been more consistent of late than the Golden Rams (9-0, 5-0).

Kutztown has won its last six games, including the victory over the Griffins almost three weeks ago. West Chester has won all nine of its games this season, and is coming off a 94-85 win against Bowie State on

Dec. 11. The Bulldogs are a common opponent as KU took down Bowie State 87-79 back on Dec. 6.

The Maroon and Gold are averaging 85.9 points per game (ppg), third in the PSAC.

Redshirt-junior Anthony Lee leads the team with 21.1 ppg (fifth in PSAC). He was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the second time this season on Dec. 11 after scoring 22 ppg in the two wins against Bowie State and Seton Hill. His 53.1% from 3-point range ranks first in PSAC. He is also second in steals (25) and fifth in free-throw percentage (92.9). Lee has posted double-digits in points in every game this season and has also came away with at least two steals in eight-of-nine games.

Along with Lee, redshirt-freshman Moe Williams was recognized by the conference, earning PSAC East Freshman of the Week honors. Williams averaged 7.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field in the two games that same week. He is fourth in the conference in blocks (13), 15th in rebounds per game (7.1) and fourth on the team in scoring (7.4 ppg).

Senior Ethan Ridgeway is second on the team in scoring (19.0 ppg) and is 27 points shy of 1,000 for his career. He leads the PSAC in assists (66) and his 7.3 assists per game is fifth in Division II. He is also eighth in free-throw percentage (90.2).

West Chester is second in the league with a 12.9 margin of victory, winning five of its nine games by double-figures, and is scoring 78.6 ppg. The Golden Rams are led by Tyrell Long, who is seventh in the PSAC in scoring (20.6 ppg), just behind Lee.

Frank Rokins leads the team in rebounds (8.9 rpg), blocks (11) and steals (12).

West Chester and Kutztown are first and second in the PSAC standings respectively.
