Slow Start Too Much to Overcome for Golden Bears at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Kutztown University women’s basketball team was defeated, 68-54, in a road matchup with Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon in its opening weekend of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

In a very back-and-forth affair, this game came down to a tale of two quarters for the Golden Bears. The Rock led 20-4 after the first ten minutes and then used a 25-11 advantage in the third quarter to decide the outcome. KU did its best to chip away at these deficits, outscoring Slippery Rock 39-23 in the second and fourth quarters, but the commanding lead to start the game, which was reestablished after the halftime break proved to be the difference for SRU.

Women’s Bowling Downed Twice by No. 22 Franklin Pierce in Final Day at Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. – The Kutztown University women’s bowling team went 1-2 on day three of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, and fell twice at the hands of nationally-ranked No. 22 Franklin Pierce, ending its tournament run Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Bears lost 4-0 to Franklin Pierce in the First Round of the double-elimination playoff bracket.

KU followed with a 4-0 win over Coppin State.

But in the next match, it met Franklin Pierce again and was defeated 4-1.

Jenn Fitts led the team in frame average Sunday at 19.84 through 26 frames. Angela Kozma held a 17.68 frame average, followed by Dana Henry at 17.27.

Kutztown is 25-15 overall on the season. 14 of the 15 losses are to ranked teams.

KU returns to the lanes for the Wilmington DII-DIII Invite in Wilmington, DE on Friday, Dec. 1.

Men’s Basketball Falls Short at California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University men’s basketball team saw its undefeated record to start the season take a hit, as it fell short at California (Pa.) University 89-87 Saturday afternoon at Hamer Hall in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) season-opener.

The Golden Bears (2-1 overall, 0-1 PSAC) led 39-37 at halftime, and were ahead to start the second half. But a 57-55 advantage with 12:51 remaining was the last time KU found itself out in front.

The Vulcans (3-1, 1-0) turned it around and went ahead by as much as nine points twice in the second half, with the latest at 74-65 with 7:32 to go.

Kutztown would tie it at 76-76 with 3:10 left, and after the two teams traded baskets, California found

KU Downed by No. 10 Cal in PSAC Opener

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women’s basketball team was defeated by the No. 10-ranked California University (PA) Vulcans, 73-47, in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) lid-lifter on Saturday afternoon.

KU was outscored 20-9 in the opening quarter and 26-15 in the second stanza as the Vulcan offense was firing on all cylinders in the opening twenty minutes. Cal was led by DJ Hahn, who scored 21 points in the first half, going five-of-five from distance, pacing the Vulcans to a 46-24 halftime advantage. This large margin proved too much for the Maroon and Gold to overcome in what was a relatively one-sided affair from the opening tip.

Nine Golden Bear Swimmers Advance to Finals at F & M Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Kutztown University women’s swimming team placed nine swimmers into the finals, securing nine new Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks during this morning’s preliminary rounds on Day Two of the Franklin and Marshall Invitational.

Claire Frank qualified for the B-Final in both the 400-IM and 100-back, posting PSAC qualifying marks in both events, to highlight the Golden Bears performance in the prelim session. The nine finalists in Saturday night’s finals is a two-swimmer increase from last season’s second day and a four-swimmer increase from 2015.

Linnea Pierson, trailing Frank by one spot, also advanced to the B-Final in the 400-IM with a PSAC-qualifying time of 4:55.40.

Brenneman Highlights First Day of F&M Invitational with Top-Ten All-Time Marks

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women’s swimming team sits in sixth place after the first day of the Franklin and Marshall Invitational on a day highlighted by the outstanding performance of Lindsey Brenneman in which the freshman turned in sixth all-time marks in both the 1000-free and 1650-free.

The evening’s opening event, the 200-free relay, featured the team of Katerina Parowski, Claire Frank, Alison McLaughlin and Madi Bleiler turning in a solid seventh-place finish. Parowski opened the race with a 24.99 first leg, securing a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) mark in the 50-free.

Frank and Jones Headline KU Swimming’s Day Two Finals Session at F&M Invite

LANCASTER, Pa. – Claire Frank and Kara Jones both notched top-ten all-time marks in tonight’s finals session at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational. As a team, the Maroon and Gold sit in sixth place following first two days of competition.

Alison McLaughlin and Madi Bleiler contributed team points towards Kutztown’s totals, competing in the C-Final of the 50-Free for the Golden Bears with times of 25.45 and 25.91.

Competing in the B-Final of the 400-IM, Frank and Linnea Pierson both improved their times from the preliminary round, finishing in 4:47.83 and 4:54.35, respectively. For Frank, this time ranks fifth all-time in school history, coming just 1.5 seconds shy of her career-best mark, 4:46.33 (third all-time), recorded at last season’s F&M Invitational.

Women’s Bowling Goes 3-2 on Day Two of Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, D.E. – The Kutztown University women’s bowling team bounced back in day two and won three of its five matches in the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic Saturday afternoon.

After losing four of five on Friday, KU had a better day Saturday going 3-2.

The Golden Bears opened the day taking down Caldwell 923-877 in their first match. They also beat Coppin State and Howard by scores of 900-821 and 878-771 respectively.

The only losses on day two were at the hands of nationally-ranked teams.

Lebanon Valley College Students Complete Brave Zone Training

The Brave Zone Network trains students, faculty, and staff with the goal of creating an on-campus network of allies and members of the LGBT+ community.
