LANCASTER, Pa. – Claire Frank and Kara Jones both notched top-ten all-time marks in tonight’s finals session at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational. As a team, the Maroon and Gold sit in sixth place following first two days of competition.
Alison McLaughlin and Madi Bleiler contributed team points towards Kutztown’s totals, competing in the C-Final of the 50-Free for the Golden Bears with times of 25.45 and 25.91.
Competing in the B-Final of the 400-IM, Frank and Linnea Pierson both improved their times from the preliminary round, finishing in 4:47.83 and 4:54.35, respectively. For Frank, this time ranks fifth all-time in school history, coming just 1.5 seconds shy of her career-best mark, 4:46.33 (third all-time), recorded at last season’s F&M Invitational.
Jones turned in a first-place finish in the C-Final of the 100-fly, touching the wall with a time of
1:00.29, which ranks seventh all-time in KU history and is just .22 seconds behind her all-time best of 1:00.02 from the 2017 PSAC Championships.
Lindsay Brenneman and Katerina Parowski competed in the B and C-Final of the 200-free, posting times of 2:01.14 and 1:58.36, respectively. Parowski finished third in the C-Final, less than half a second off the pace of the winner.
In the 200-breast, Bridget Perdoch and Suzanne Selman swam in the B and C-Final, finishing seventh and contributing to Kutztown’s solid showing in tonight’s session.
The final individual event, the 100-back, had three KU swimmers participating between the B and C-Finals. Frank turned in her second top-ten finish of the meet, finishing with a time of 1:00.51. Jocelyn Seidt completed the race in 1:02.37, securing a middle of the pack finish in the C-Final. Unfortunately, Bleiler was disqualified before her final swim, meaning her time was considered invalid.
The Golden Bears return to the pool at Franklin and Marshall tomorrow for the final day of the F&M Invite, of which prelims start at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Claire Frank qualified for the B-Final in both the 400-IM and 100-back, posting PSAC qualifying marks in both events, to highlight the Golden Bears performance in the prelim session. The nine finalists in Saturday night’s finals is a two-swimmer increase from last season’s second day and a four-swimmer increase from 2015.
Linnea Pierson, trailing Frank by one spot, also advanced to the B-Final in the 400-IM with a PSAC-qualifying time of 4:55.40.
Madi Bleiler became the second dual-final qualifier for KU, advancing to the B-Final in the 100-back and recording a PSAC-qualifying time to move on to the C-Final in the 50-free.
Alison McLaughlin finished right behind Bleiler in the prelims of the 50-free, notching a time of 25.73 to garner a spot in the C-Final.
The 100-back produced three finals qualifiers with Jocelyn Seidt cementing a spot in the C-Final with a time of 1:05.71, joining Frank and Bleiler (B-Finalists) in this event.
Kara Jones, the Maroon and Gold’s lone participant in the 100-fly, moves on the C-Final, posting a PSAC-mark of 1:01.71.
Both Lindsay Brenneman and Katerina Parowski recording PSAC-marks in the 200-free to advance to the B and C-Finals, respectively, one of KU’s five events with multiple finals qualifiers.
In similar fashion, Bridget Perdoch and Suzanne Selman qualified for the B and C-Finals, respectively, with PSAC-marks in the 200-breast.
