KUTZTOWN | The fourth-ranked Kutztown University women’s soccer team stays put at the top spot of the latest edition of the NCAA Atlantic Region Poll, released on Wednesday.
The NCAA regional poll is the official poll that will determine the field for the NCAA Tournament next month. This is the third of three weekly regional polls that will be released prior to the live NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. on www.NCAA.com.
The Golden Bears (16-2-1 overall) finished the regular season last week with a 2-2 tie at Bloomsburg University on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and a 4-0 victory at Pitt-Johnstown last Saturday. They took
down Seton Hill 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 31.
KU is ranked fourth in Division II in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll.
West Chester (14-2-1) moved up a spot to second. After falling to KU 2-0 back on Sept. 27, the Golden Rams have rattled off 10 straight victories.
West Virginia Wesleyan (15-2-1) dropped from the second position to third after losing over the weekend. Notre Dame (Ohio) comes in at four, and East Stroudsburg (12-3-3) is fifth.
PSAC members Gannon, Slippery Rock and Indiana (Pa.) round out the top-eight spots in the poll.
KU, West Chester, ESU and Gannon are in the final four in the PSAC tournament.
Six teams from the Atlantic Region will be selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament, including automatic qualification for conference champions. The top-two seeds in the region will host First & Second Round action (two three-team sites) in the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 10-12. The Third Round and Quarterfinals will be held on Nov. 17-19 at the top remaining seed in the East Region this year, with the National Semifinal and Championships games returning to Kansas City, Mo. on Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
Kutztown is the second seed in the PSAC tournament and plays in the semifinal round tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 2. at 1:30 p.m. at West Chester University against the third seed East Stroudsburg.
