Perez Seals Men’s Tennis Victory in Down-to-Wire Match vs. LeMoyne

KUTZTOWN | Joan Oliver Perez (Andratx, Spain/IES Baltasar Porcel) won in tiebreakers in his second flight of singles play to seal the Kutztown University men’s tennis team’s 5-4 win over LeMoyne Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Keystone Courts.

In a tied match at 4-4, Oliver Perez’s singles bout was the decisive match Saturday. He won a narrow 7-6 first set, fell 6-4 in the second set, but rallied with a strong 6-3 tiebreaking victory at No. 2 singles.

The Golden Bears trailed 2-1 after doubles play. The No. 3 pairing of Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Jason Listmeier (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) earned KU a point with their 9-7 victory. Notably, KU’s other two doubles teams combined to win nine games.

In singles action, Nolan Perugini () won his debut match for the Golden Bears. He competed at No. 4 singles and won in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.

Carl also won in singles action with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5, while Gabriel Nogara Souza (Curitiba, Brazil/Dom Bosco) rounded out the KU winners with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.

Kutztown wraps up its fall season on Monday, Oct. 23, at Saint Thomas Aquinas at 2 p.m.
