KUTZTOWN | The Kutztown University women’s bowling team was voted third by the coaches in the preseason East Coast Conference Poll released Friday.

KU finished the 2016-17 season with a 55-63 record, and return a large chunk of the starting lineup this season.

Led by All-ECC First-Team bowlers Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) and Angela Kozma(Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South), the Maroon and Gold welcome back seven members of the team from last year.

Head coach Joseph Ambrose is entering his 11th season at the helm, and holds a 717-512 (.583) career record. He has led KU to a top-20 ranking in the country every year dating back to 2008. His teams have finished with a winning season in eight of his 10 years as head coach.

The Golden Bears finished in a tie with Felician University for third, receiving 67 points. Adelphi University was picked as the favorite to win its third straight ECC championship. Lincoln Memorial University was voted second, and Franklin Pierce University round out the top five.

This is the first year that conference champions will automatically qualify for the NCAA championships, which will be held in St. Louis, Missouri. The winner of Kutztown’s conference, the East Coast Conference, will be added to four schools that get selected as at-large bids, who will compete for eight spots at the NCAA championships.

KU begins its season on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Bud Whitman Memorial held at Berks Lanes in Reading, Pa. KU will compete in 11 events this season before heading to the ECC Championships at the end of March and potentially the NCAA Championships in April.
